Cell Biology (Cytometry and Cultures)

The Cell Biology (Cytometry and Cultures) research support platform is located in the Regional University Hospital of Málaga, the Civil Hospital, and the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital. It offers comprehensive common use facilities for the different groups and external users who may require it. All researchers who are part of IBIMA have access to the facilities. There is a reservation system for equipment or services.

Facilities and equipment are offered in optimal conditions with periodic calibrations and inspections in order to ensure proper functioning.

Cytometry Service

  • Cell immunophenotyping. Characterisation of cell subpopulations, activation status, receptor expression, and cellular mediators
  • Viability studies
  • Cell cycle studies
  • Intracellular signalling. Analysis of phosphorylation
  • Study of apoptosis via PI, annexin V, and TUNEL/i>
  • Study of cell proliferation via the incorporation of BrdU or CSFE
  • Determination of intracellular cytokines
  • Quantification of soluble cytokines via multiplexed assays

Cell culture service

  • Maintenance of the general conditions for the optimal use of the service
  • Detection of contamination (mycoplasma)
  • This service includes the preparation and aliquotting of specific antibiotics for culture mediums, inactivation and storage of foetal bovine serum, preparation of culture mediums and cell freezing mediums, and pipette maintenance
  • Acquirement and isolation of primary cultures and cell lines
  • Acquirement and isolation of different cell subpopulations via a magnetic microsphere system
  • Cell transformations. Acquirement of monocyte-derived dendritic cells
  • Isolation and marking of lymphocytes for cell proliferation studies

Immunochemistry service

  • Techniques for quantifying specific antibodies and competitive inhibition assays via radioimmunoassays, fluoroimmunoassays, enzyme immunoassays, and microarray systems.
  • Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and immunotransference techniques. Affinity chromatography

Processing of samples and sterilisation of instruments and reagents

  • Processing of different biological samples: cell separation by density gradient centrifugation, acquirement of serum and plasma, etc.
  • Sterilisation of instruments and reagents
