Bienvenidos
The Biomedical Research Institute of Málaga (IBIMA) is a health research institute which was created in July 2010. It arose from an agreement between the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia and the University of Málaga in which they reinforced their commitment to consolidating IBIMA as a cutting-edge biomedical centre of excellence. IBIMA is one of the more than 30 institutes accredited for healthcare research in Spain by the Carlos III Institute of Health (15 January 2015). It is a multidisciplinary research space where scientists from the worlds of academia and healthcare work to improve citizens’ health and the social and economic development of Málaga province. IBIMA's administrative agency is the Andalusian Public Foundation for Health and Biomedicine Research in Málaga (FIMABIS).
Scientific Director greeting message
IBIMA is a multidisciplinary biomedical research space centred around the Regional University Hospital of Málaga and the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital of Málaga along with primary care centres and the biotechnology groups of the University of Málaga.
Its objective is to promote research of excellence that is preferably translational in order to obtain results that are transferable to clinical practice and biotechnology applications.
The Institute allows for the development and strengthening of a multidisciplinary biomedical research space that contributes to providing the scientific underpinnings of the Spanish National Healthcare System’s programmes and policies. It fosters research that is preferably translational in the biomolecular, Clinical, Epidemiological and Technology areas that facilitates the transfer of scientific advances made in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the most prevalent health problems on the regional, national, and international levels.
IBIMA comprises more than 50 research groups from the University of Málaga and healthcare centres in the Andalusia Public Healthcare System.
