The Biomedical Research Institute of Málaga (IBIMA) adhered to the European Commission’s Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) in 2016. The strategy takes into account the rights and responsibilities of researchers and their employers, contributing to the creation of a labour market that is favourable to the interests of the scientific community whilst being fully transparent and allowing researchers to advance their scientific careers in a motivating environment.
The strategy is based on the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researcher:
- The European Charter for Researchers.. Created in 2005 by the European Commission, IBIMA adhered to the Charter through its 2016 Declaration of Commitment. The Charter focuses on the responsibilities and rights of researchers, their employers, and funding entities.
- The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The Code improves the researcher hiring process through the implementation of fairer and more transparent selection practices.
- Execution of an internal review to compare the institutes’ practices to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (C&C), involving all levels of the institute’s hierarchy.
- Publication of the review’s results and of an Action Plan.
- Approval of the strategy by the European Commission and granting of an HR Excellence in Research seal.
- Implementation of the Action Plan in the institute and an interim assessment in two years’ time.
- External evaluation by the European Commission every three years.
